Line editing focuses on the flow, clarity, and tone of your writing. I’ll review your manuscript at the sentence and paragraph level to:

• Refine word choice and phrasing

• Eliminate redundancy or awkward wording

• Clarify meaning an improve sentence structure

• Ensure consistency in tone and style

Line editing is ideal if your manuscript is complete but could benefit from a stylistic polish to enhance readability and engagement.

 

Copyediting - $0.006

Copyediting addresses the technical side of your writing to ensure your manuscript is clean and consistent. This includes:

• Correcting grammar, punctuation, spelling, and usage

• Maintaining consistency in capitalization, hyphenation, and style

• Ensuring clarity and accuracy in sentence structure

• Applying your preferred style guide or standard (e.g., CMOS)

Copyediting is recommended after developmental or line editing and before the final proofread.

 

Proofreading - $0.005

The final polish before publication. I carefully read through your formatted or nearly-final manuscript to catch:

• Spelling, grammar, and punctuation errors

• Typographical and formatting mistakes

• Minor inconsistencies and layout issues

Proofreading is best done after all other editing is complete. It’s your last chance to catch small errors before publishing or printing.

 

Basic Book Formatting - $25-75, depending on format and interior complexity.

I format your book for print or ebook for a smooth and professional reading experience, per standard publishing platform requirements. Note: I do not format picture books, coloring books, graphic novels, or any work that is image-heavy. Some decorative images are fine.

Do you offer developmental editing?

At this time, I am not able to commit the dedication required to provide a valuable developmental editing experience to clients. If you require developmental editing, I will be happy to provide resources or guidance on finding resources and editors who can help.

What types of books do you work on?

I work primarily with genre fiction, but am open to providing proofreading for nonfiction projects,  including memoirs, self-help, and more. If you're not sure your project is a good fit, feel free to ask!

Do you use a specific style guide?

I follow the Chicago Manual of Style (CMOS) for most projects. I’m happy to follow a house or publisher style guide if you provide one.

Do you use track changes?

Yes! I use Microsoft Word’s Track Changes feature for all editing work. You’ll see every suggestion and can accept or reject changes as you review the file. Often, I will leave a comment explaining why I made that suggestion.

Can you format both print and ebook versions?

Yes, I format for both print and digital. I provide files that meet the specifications of platforms like Amazon KDP, IngramSpark, and others. Let me know where you plan to publish, and I’ll tailor the files accordingly.

How do payments work?

For most projects, I require a 50% deposit to reserve your spot, with the remainder due upon delivery. Payment methods and exact terms will be outlined in your quote. You will not be billed until a contract has been signed.

Do you offer sample edits?

Yes, for line editing and copyediting projects, I offer a short sample edit (up to 1,000 words) free of charge. It helps you see my style and determine if we’re a good fit.

Do you have a cancellation or refund policy?

Yes. You are free to cancel at any time, however the deposit is not refundable once work has begun. If you need to cancel before your scheduled start date, please let me know as soon as possible. Full terms will be outlined in your quote or agreement.

- Over 10 years in the small press and indie press business.

- Certificate of completion from the University of Queensland online writing program.

- Two years as a non-fiction editor with a promotional marketing company writing and editing blogs for corporate clients.

- Two years as an independent contractor performing fiction editing.

- Certification in Business Office Administration from John Wood Community College.
